Back in August 2011, we brought you news of one of Guillermo del Toro’s upcoming project Pacific Rim, which the man himself described as “giant fucking monsters against giant fucking robots” after a dimensional rift appears in the Pacific Ocean and collossal beasts appear and mankind deploys equally massive robots piloted by humans to battle them. Del Toro added that this is “my homage and lovefest to giant monsters destroying cities…”
Filming is well underway on Pacific Rim with Brit actors Idris Elba (Prometheus, 28 Weeks Later, The Unborn), Charlie Hunnam (Sons of Anarchy, Children of Men) and Robert Kazinsky onboard alongside Clifton Collins Jr (Fortress, Tigerland), Robert Maillet (Monster Brawl, 300, Sherlock Holmes) and Ron Perlman (Hellboy, The Devil’s Tomb, Alien: Resurrection, Blade II).
Pacific Rim is now set to be released on July the 12th 2013 but what can we expect from it? At the moment, I’m expecting Godzilla vs Transformers but with del Toro at the helm, I think we can expect something a little darker than that.
