With this year’s Cannes International Film Festival almost upon us, it seems like as good a time as any for Alexandre Aja and Greg Levasseur to start teasing out images of their Franck Khalfoun-helmed reproduction of Maniac.
And why not? As previously reported, Maniac will be screening out of competition as part of the Midnight selection at the illustrious event.
The pics are quite interesting and one of them, at least, makes me smile fondly as it closely echoes the look and tone of William Lustig’s original.
The synopsis is as follows,
Just when the streets seemed safe, a serial killer with a fetish for scalps is back and on the hunt.
Frank is the withdrawn owner of a mannequin store, but his life changes when young artist Anna appears asking for his help with her new exhibition. As their friendship develops and Frank’s obsession escalates, it becomes clear that she has unleashed a long-repressed compulsion to stalk and kill.
Maniac stars Elijah Wood (The Faculty, Sin City) and Nora Arnezeder (Safe House).
Truth be told, I’m a little gutted I can’t make it across to France for it…
More as it comes! (Hopefully a trailer?)
