Certain things within the genre are guaranteed components to scare: sullen children, abandoned stately homes, clowns, yeah definitely clowns! The set-up for Asylum Blackout (formerly known as The Incident) does exactly what the title suggests and puts the protagonists in, well, an asylum that suffers from a power cut…
Asylum Blackout stars Anna Skellern (The Descent: Part 2, Siren), Rupert Evans (Hellboy, Elfie Hopkins) and Dave Legeno; and comes with the following synopsis:
“George, Max, and Ricky are in a rock band and waiting for their big breakthrough. Between small gigs and rehearsals they work in the kitchen of a high-security asylum for good pay at minimum risk — they have no physical contact with the inmates. One night just before dinnertime, a big storm shuts down the security system, the doors open, and the lunatics break loose. Help is on its way and should soon arrive … they just have to survive until it does.”
I’m quite curious about this project for a number of reasons, chiefly among which are the fact that the plot centres around atypical protagonists for the genre and the inclusion of Dave Legeno: a former MMA star who at 6’3″ and over 220lbs, cuts quite the screen presence and can be seen in such films as: Batman Begins, Dead Cert, Outlaw, The Raven and will be in the upcoming Snow White and The Huntsman. Legeno’s best known role to date is that of Fenrir Greyback in the Harry Potter films and I’d like to see what he can do when let off the leash a little…
Asylum Blackout started a limited theatrical and VOD release on May 4th in the US and as yet, no news on a UK release date.
