The official word is in! Julianne Moore to play Carrie’s mother…

No great surprise, truth be told, given that we have been talking about the likelihood of this being the case for about a month now.

It’s still nice to have things confirmed though and here you have it.

Yep, Deadline have reported that MGM have agreed terms with Julianne Moore (Hannibal, Psycho ’98) has agreed terms with MGM to fill the role of psychokinetic teen Carrie White’s insane, religious nutball mother, Margaret, in Kim Peirce’s re-working of Stephen King’s classic novel, Carrie.

That’s not to say that Moore will have an easy ride. Simply pop on Brian De Palma’s incredible version of Carrie and watch Piper Laurie’s Oscar-nominated portrayal of the same character. I wish Moore all the best though…

Moore will join Chloe-Grace Moretz (Kick-Ass, Let Me In, Dark Shadows) who has already been confirmed in the lead role of Carrie.

AND…

The cast will also include British actress Gabriella Wilde (The Three Musketeers) in the role of Sue Snell, originally played by the excellent Amy Irving.

Carrie is expected to arrive in cinemas on March 15, 2013.

More as it comes…
