First look at David Morrissey in The Walking Dead as The Governor

Fans of the comic series The Walking Dead will know that The Governor is easily the most sinister character in the whole epic saga. I was intrigued when I found out in February that acclaimed British actor David Morrissey was cast as this reprehensible leader of a small community of bikers and lost souls, battling for survival against the undead menace.

In an interview with TV Guide, Kirkman stated: “Seeing The Walking Dead come to life on AMC has been a real thrill for me, obviously, and moving into Season 3, I’m even more excited than ever because now I feel like we’re really getting to ‘the good stuff…Having The Governor in the mix is going to fundamentally change the show in all kinds of awesome and exiting ways. And David Morrissey totally rocks!” Kirkman continued “The Governor in the show is definitely going to be The Governor in the comic…I think that he’s definitely going to be a character that people love to hate and are absolutely entertained by but also somewhat terrified of. He’s definitely going to be a very important character and a very nuanced character. We are not going to be watering him down.

Despite the above assurances from Kirkman, I’m not convinced. I’m sure Morrissey will deliver a fine performance as The Governor but my own thoughts, and I’m sure I’ll be supported by many (including the Mighty Shengis Khan), are that Danny Trejo (Machete, From Dusk Till Dawn, Desperado) or Tom Savini (Planet Terror, Land of the Dead) would have physically been a much better much for the portrayal of The Governor.

Let us know what you think, boils and ghouls…
