The wheels are turning faster and faster every day on Jose Padilha’s upcoming reboot of Robocop and casting news is coming thick and fast.
Let’s recap.
We have Joel Kinnaman set to don the mantle of the cybernetic police officer. Gary Oldman has also signed on to appear as the creator of RoboCop, as has Samuel L. Jackson, who will take on the role of “Pat Novak, a charismatic media mogul”. Abbie Cornish (Limitless) has also been approached to star as RoboCop’s wife (Presumably, before he becomes part-man, part-machine, all-cop).
So what’s the latest, Andy?
Well, THR are reporting that the villain role has been offered to none other than Blackadder clown-turned supercool Emmy winner, House M.D himself, Hugh Laurie.
AHA! I hear you cry. “Waaaaaait. AAAAAH. I see what you did with the title there, Andy! Very witty.”
Thanks.
So, if Laurie accepts, he will play the evil and ultra-rich CEO of Omnicorp, the company that makes Robocop.
Expect the film in cinemas on August 9th, 2013 or thereabouts.
More as it comes.
