The Terminator meets Frankenstein in ‘The Machine’!

ED-209, T-800, Gort, Ash, The Cylons… Robots, androids and cyborgs have been a staple cinematic villain for decades and there’s no sign of their mechanical onslaught halting!

Next to add their name to that roster of robotic rogues could be Caity Lotz (The Pact, MTV’s Death Valley) who is set to star in The Machine.

Variety outlines the synopsis as follows:

Set in the near future and with the world plunged into another cold war, Britain’s Ministry of Defense is on the verge of developing a robotic soldier. This soldier, called The Machine (Lotz), looks and sounds human, but has the strength, speed, and ruthlessness beyond that of any living person. The project is near completion when a bug in the programming, a side effect of it being too close to human coding, causes the prototype to destroy the lab and everyone in its path in spectacularly violent fashion. Undeterred by this setback, lead scientist Vincent McCarthy (Stephens) obsessively continues his work on The Machine in secret, away from the prying eyes of those who seek to destroy him.

To my mind, the plot outline sounds like The Terminator meets Frankenstein with a pinch of Asimovian storytelling thrown in for good measure! The Machine will be directed by Caradog James with John Giwa-Amu of Red and Black Films producing and Toby Stephens (Severance, Die Another Day, Dark Corners) starring alongside Lotz.

Filming is set to commence on British soil in Cardiff on July 23rd.  Rest assured we’ll be keeping our peepers peeled for more on this one, fiends!
