This Day in Horror- July 12th

On this day in horror…

1880. American director Tod Browning is born. Undoubtedly best known for helming the 1931 version of Dracula starring Bela Lugosi, Browning also directed the controversial Freaks and London after Midnight, Mark of the Vampire, The Devil-Doll and more!

1973 marks the passing of horror legend Lon Chaney Jr. The son of Lon Chaney Sr, known as “The Man of A Thousand Faces”, Chaney Jr established himself as a star in his own right and is noted for his genre roles in films such as: The Mummy’s Tomb, Son of Dracula, Calling Dr Death, The Wolf  Man, The Ghost of Frankenstein and more!  Chaney Jr is the ONLY actor to have played all four of Universal’s major movie monsters.

1978. Michelle Rodriguez is born. Perhaps somewhat typecast in tough girl roles, Rodriguez has starred in horror films such as: BloodRayne, The Breed, the Resident Evil series of films and of course, Shengis Khan’s much-loved Machete.

ADDITIONAL – 1980 marks the birth of everyone’s favourite book reviewer and AndyErupts number 2, John Milton. Mr. Milton has been tireless in bringing this very segment to AE readers for the past 12 months, not to mention mucking in with news and reviews.

Personally, I couldn’t do this without him. Happy Birthday, man.

- Andy
