I’m a huge Vincenzo Natali fan, so you can imagine my excitement when I heard that the man who brought us Splice and Cypher is apparently at the helm of William Gibson’s Neuromancer film adaptation.
Natali is the Giorgio Armani of film directors for me. Everything he touches looks and feels so classy. Maybe it’s because the very fibres of his films (and imagination) are twined together from the finest silks? Who knows.
Personally, I cannot wait to see what he has in mind for this. The story is a noir, cyberpunk-dystopian tale about a more-than-slightly-damaged computer hacker, Henry Case, and a mysterious proposition which he hopes will help get his life back on track.
Natali is probably the perfect choice to direct this, but I was surprised to hear that he’d approached Mark Wahlberg for the part of Case and Liam Neeson for the mysterious mercenery Armitage. I can’t imagine either bringing the sort of intensity or style you’d expect for a classic sci-fi story like this, but, if it’s what Vincenzo’s tailor-sharp vision desires, then who am I to question it?
More as it comes…
