When Quentin Tarantino and Robert Rodriguez’s Grindhouse double-header was released back in 2007, we here in the UK got a version cleaved in half. Perhaps, without the “drive-in” culture enjoyed by our friends across the pond, our feeble British brains wouldn’t be able to grasp the concept of a grindhouse double bill, so we were treated to separately released presentations of both Death Proof and Planet Terror.
In the trimming and separation, we also lost some of the most important parts of the whole production: the mock trailers for Rob Zombie’s Werewolf Women Of The S.S, Edgar Wright’s DON’T! and Eli Roth’s Thanksgiving.
Thankfully, Grindhouse is now available in its full form on Blu-ray in the UK, so we can now enjoy the film as it was supposed to be seen.
While we were treated to a feature-length version of Machete, fans have been clamouring for all of the trailers to be made as feature length films. So far, Rob Zombie has said no.
Eli Roth, however, still has plans to make Thanksgiving a reality.
Speaking to Behind The Thrills, Roth said,
“Thanksgiving is happening. It’s gonna happen. I’m working with the Clowns writers (Jon Watts and Christopher D. Ford). [We] have a call scheduled for tomorrow afternoon,” Roth goes on to add that the duo will co-write the script with Roth and his writing partner, Jeff Rendell. “We finally cracked the story and figured out how to make it really, really scary, and a reason to do it. Before John starts shooting Clown he has a window.”
No word on a director as yet, but we will let you know as more details become available.
For now, check out the Thanksgiving trailer below, shot while Roth was filming Hostel II.
Oh and in case you missed them and because I’m so nice, here are the trailers for DON’T! and Werewolf Women Of The SS.
