Sam Raimi declares that The Evil Dead remake will be R Rated…at least…

For anyone out there wondering if Fede Alvarez’s remake of The Evil Dead will even come close to touching the gore levels and lunacy of the original, then producer Sam Raimi might just have the answers you seek…

Speaking to Collider, Raimi had the following to say,

“It’s really bloody. It’s so bloody, it will make your head spin. I’ve seen almost all the dailies, and they’re really going for it. It’s gonna be grisly and intense and non-stop.

When asked to hazard a guess on a potential rating, Raimi said,

“Definitely R. Maybe worse.”

So, for us in the UK, I’d say that we are looking at a solid “18″ rating.

The synopsis is as follows,

Five twenty-something friends become holed up in a remote cabin where they discover a Book of the Dead and unwittingly summon up dormant demons living in the nearby woods, which possess the youngsters in succession until only one is left intact to fight for survival.

Directed by Alvarez from a script co-written by Rodo Sayagues, The Evil Dead stars Jane Levy as Mia; Shiloh Fernandez as David; Lou Taylor Pucci as Eric; Jessica Lucas as Olivia; and Elizabeth Blackmore as Natalie.

The Evil Dead will be in cinemas on April 12th, 2013. Fede Alvarez is directing while Sam Raimi, Rob Tapert and Bruce Campbell are set to produce. Script revisions were handled by Juno and Jennifer’s Body scribe Diablo Cody.

More as it comes…
