It’s a collaboration which could have interesting results.
The Syfy Channel announced today that The Sixth Sense writer/director, M. Night Shyamalan, and the Buffy the Vampire Slayer writer/producer, Marti Noxon, have now settled on a deal to start work on Proof, a new television pilot heading for the network.
In short, Proof tells the story of an orphaned son, who inherits his parents’ billions and offers up a reward to anyone who can prove that there is life after death. Simple concept, packed with potential.
Shyamalan and Noxon will co-write, with the former in the director’s seat. The series, which has no confirmed air date as yet, will be a first venture into television for the Signs director.
Admittedly, it’s been a rough few years for Mr. S, whose films I’ve always adored and defended. Yes, even The Village. (But not The Happening, surely? – Andy)
Ok, so The Happening was bizarre and The Last Airbender completely flopped at the box office, but you have to make ‘em if you’re wanna find ‘em – hits, that is.
The S man (as I will now call him), has also been busy working on After Earth, a post-apocalytic tale starring Will and Jaden Smith, and currently in post-production. Produced by Will Smith, After Earth is due for release in the States in June 2013.
Until then, let’s hope that the S man has a bit more luck with Proof. If it goes down well, television could well be in for some majorly pleasant twists and turns…
