Well, they lied to us. Pure and simple. Despite Lionsgate and the makers of SAW claiming SAW 3D would be the final part of the gruesome tale, Bloody Disgusting are claiming to have inside sources that say talks are under way about bringing a new film with the SAW name attached to it in the near future.
Are we in least bit surprised? The series has grossed almost $740,000,000 to date and is one of the most successful horror franchises, up there with the likes of the Nightmare On Elm Street series and Friday The 13th and it’s sequels.
Will this be another piece of the Jigsaw (SAW VIII)? Or a whole new puzzle altogether (a complete reboot/remake)? Well, that is what the producers are apparently knocking their heads together to decide.
The gorgeous actress Betsy Russell (who played Jigsaw’s ex-wife Jill in the movies) claimed the writers had a belter of an idea for SAW VIII two years ago when she said:
“Before we thought it was ending [with Saw 3D], the writers came up with an unbelievable idea [for Saw 8]. It’s an amazing story that I would love to see… We want to end near the top, with our integrity intact and not letting the characters die a slow death, so to speak. But I believe in my heart that someday, somehow, [Saw 8] will happen.”
Maybe she was just an actress desperate for the work at the time though…or she really enjoys toying with the die hard fans’ emotions…
Nothing has been announced officially. No one is saying anything on record…yet. However, BD are adamant that their sources are good and we will see a new SAW movie soon.
For SAW fans, being lied to never felt so good.
We’re chasing this up. More news as soon as it becomes official.
