Meet A&E’s Norman Bates…

Off the back of the announcement that Vera Farmiga would be filling the pivotal role of domineering mother Norma Bates in A&E’s 10-part series, Bates Motel, and the release of the first promotional art, the question became, who would take on the role of psychopathic hotel proprietor, Norman Bates?

Well, you need wait no longer. The news is in.

US TV Guide have reported that the role has gone to Freddie Highmore (Finding Neverland, Charlie & The Chocolate Factory).

Highmore will follow in the footsteps of other “Notable Normans” such as Henry Thomas, Vince Vaughn (ahem) and the original, and most excellent Norman, Anthony Perkins.

“Bates Motel” gives viewers an intimate understanding of how Norman Bates’ psyche developed from his childhood through his teen years. Fans will have access to the dark, twisted backstory and learn first hand how his mother, Norma, and her love damaged Norman helped forge the most well-known serial killing motel owner in history.

Aesthetically, I think the producers have gotten this one right. Let’s see how he performs!

More as it comes…
